Three people and a daylight room
Studio Halden is Mira Halden, Tomas Berg, and Idris Kaya. We work from one room with north light, a paper backdrop, and space to build a set, and most commissions start or finish there.
Mira shoots every commission, Tomas produces it, and Idris finishes it. Nothing is handed to a junior, and nothing leaves the studio until all three of us would put our name to it.

They photographed Low House in the light we designed it for. Two years later, those are still the only pictures of the house we send out.
Fig Season was shot during a Friday service and nobody in the kitchen noticed the camera. That was the whole brief, and they got it right.
Commissions
How far ahead should we book?
Four to six weeks suits most shoots. Architecture depends on weather and season, so we hold two dates and shoot on whichever brings the better light.
Do you travel?
Most of our work is on location. Travel days are planned into the schedule, and travel and lodging sit on their own line of the quote so nothing is hidden.
How do usage rights work?
We license the photographs for the uses you name: web, print, press, or campaigns. The license is written into the quote, and extending it later takes one email.
Do you shoot video?
Short clips, yes: loops and behind the scenes pieces shot alongside the stills. For a longer film we bring in a director we trust and produce it together.
What should we prepare?
A shot list, even a rough one, and access to the space an hour before we start. For products, send everything clean, with a spare of anything fragile.

Journal
-
One light, forty frames
Why most of our still lifes use a single strobe, and what we do when one is not enough.
-
Scouting at the hour you will shoot
A building looks like a different building at nine and at four. We scout at the hour we plan to…
-
What we pack for an exterior day
Two cases, one ladder, and a roll of gaffer tape that has been to six countries.
